the 1970's -- three republicansand five democrats who won here have gone on to win their respective party's nomination. for the republicans, polls show donald trump has a slight lead, with ted cruz in second. however, after a strong showing in the latest debate, marco rubio may have made some in- roads with iowa voters. (david yepsen/paul simon institute) "polls are a lousy predictor of what happens on caucus night. lots of margin of error, lots of softness in the polling rubio's doing what he's gotta do, getting around, getting some buzz going." on the democratic side, hillary clinton and bernie sanders are in a virtual dead heat... the latest nbc-wall street journal poll puts clinton just three points ahead of sanders among iowa voters.... and martin o'malley far behind. that's notable, considering the difference in supporters and views between the candidates. be a slick morning commute with strong winds & much colder temperatures today along with additional mountain snow. we continue under a wind advisory until 6 pm tonight for gusts 45-55 mph possible. the rain should taper off throughout the late morning early afternoon with a high of just 49 degrees. daytime highs are forecast to stay in the 40's through tuesday which means overnight temperatures will be near freezing. by wednesday the daytime temps return to the lower 50's as a ridge builds in for the rest of the week putting us back in the upper 50's to low 60's friday

good morning. here's a look at your fox5 traffic solutions let's begin with your drive here are the accidents to watch out and alternate routes you can use listed on our maps here are the construciton areas to look out for and alternate routes listed on our maps back to the news desk sunday's storm is being blamed for sparking a house fire near the las vegas country club estates. the clark county fire department reports lightning struck a tree and spread to a neighboring townhome near paradise and desert inn... crews were able to get it under control in around thirty minutes. damage is estimated at around 200- thousand dollars. the man pulled from a burning mobile home over the weekend has died. firefighters found the victim saturday morning near carey and pecos. he was taken to u-m-c where he later died. the mobile home is a complete loss, with damage estimated at 100- thousand dollars. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. homeowners in north las vegas feel violated after several homes and cars

over the weekend. it happened at "sun city aliante" near aliante parkway and elkhorn. those living in the area say large rocks were thrown at dozens of homes and cars. north las vegas police says homeowners have filed their own incident reports. so far, no one has been arrested. we reached out to sun city aliante but they did not want to release any information. if you know anything about this vandalism -- call north las vegas police or crimestoppers at 702-385-55-55. the music world loses another one... signe toly anderson of jefferson airplane has died. anderson was the original female vocalist for the band. she passed away at the age of 74 at her home in beaverton, oregon... the same day former band mate paul kantner died. anderson left the band after its first record and was replaced by grace slick. two virginia tech college students are facing charges in connection with the abduction and murder of a 13-

nicole lovell's body was found saturday, more than a hundred miles away from her blacksburg home. 18-year-old david eisenhauer and 19-year-old natalie keepers are charged in the girl's death. police have not said how or why nicole was killed. big changes could be coming to the way police officers use force against suspects in the field. around 200 law enforcement leaders are considering new use-of-force rules right now. later today, the city of cleveland will submit its first year plan to reform the police department. the changes come after a department of justice investigation concluded cleveland police officers showed a pattern of excessive force and violated people's civil rights. federal investigators are expected to release information about the deadly amtrak train derailment that killed eight people--and injured 200, in may of 20-12. the documents could shed some light on some of the big mysteries surrounding the

mark davis visited las vegas on friday for a meeting with sheldon adelson -- the c-e-o of the las vegas sands corporation. adelson hopes to build a domed stadium to house u-n-l-v football. davis went out to visit the 42-acre site where the building would stand. the sands corporation wants much of the stadium funding to come from the public. the review journal is reporting developers would look for 780- million dollars in public financing. the sands will present a proposal to the southern nevada tourism infrastructure committee asking for hotel room taxes, that go to the l-v-c-v-a, to be diverted to the project. for those of you truly desparate for any form of football... the pro bowl was last night. this is all the players who wish they were playing in the super bowl instead... speaking of the raiders... it was a special day for charles woodson. this was the future hall-of- famer's last game before retiring.... ...finishing his career with his

police the man was in a rush to catch another bus when he was hit. u-m-c where he died. the driver did and police believe they will not be charged. the coroner is working to identify the victim right now. dozens rallied on the strip demanding justice for a man shot and killed by police on "justice for keith, no racist police family and friends of 23-year-old keith childress junior stood on the strip sunday night with signs saying "we demand police accountability". they're asking the metro police department for a transparent investigation into childress' death. police say childress was wanted by u-s marshals for skipping sentencing in a home invasion in arizona. metro says marshals td officers he was wanted for attempted murder but police say that turned out to be false. body cam footage shows an officer commanding him to get on the ground several times. police say

"this race is so tight on both sides... iowa is still anyone's game." it appears republicans and democrats are fighting for the future of their political parties in the hawkeye state. with the campaign down to the wire... donald trump doesn't seem to regret skipping out on the fox news debate last week. trump says: "people respect the fact that i skipped the debate because i wasn't treated right." there is one candidate though the republicans are set on defeating. cruz says: "we will win the general election and defeat hillary clinton. clinton thinks she's the best candidate to beat the g-o-p. clinton says: "on the republican side, you hear a lot of the same and, particularly, when it comes to the economy. this is one of the biggest dividing lines between me and the republicans. but it's starting to look like vermont senator bernie sanders could take iowa away from hillary clinton... bernie says: "a poll done by the des moines register 8 months ago had us 41 points behind. we have come a long way in 8 months." analysts say a

follow this story throughout the morning. the winter storm that slammed the northeast 8 days ago turned out to be a whopper. weather officials say the blizzard i the fourth most powerful snowstorm to hit the area in more than sixty years. it spanned over 26-states and 400-square miles. affecting more than a hundred-million- people. transportation in some areas, was left paralyzed--includi ng the nation's capital. some affected areas also saw more than two- feet of snow. a powerful storm in california leaves one person dead. this after a massive tree fell on a car, trapping and killing the person inside. winds as high as 115 miles per hour blew through parts of the state. rooftops were ripped off some homes and power to more than a 140-thousand people in los angeles and san diego was knocked out. some areas saw an inch of rain!

des moines, caroline shively, fox news.">> the nevada democratic caucus is a few weeks away. six caucus sites will be set up on february 20th for people who work on the las vegas strip. here's a list of places to caucus on the strip: new york-new york, caesars palace, rio, paris, harrah's and wynn resort. voters wanting to use the sites will have to declare they work nearby, and can't make it home because of their shift. these sites are part of a broader effort to ramp up caucus participation. the republican caucus is set for february 23rd. when you start filing your taxes this year, it's important to remember there are large tax credits available, for lower to moderate income families. morning... an emotional night on the stage last night as actress vanessa hudgens pays tribute to her late father. her father passed away saturday night after a battle with cancer... just one night before hudgens was to perform in "grease live" hudgens dedicated her performance to her dad.
